A NEW READING OF TIME...
The single-hand concept is a remedy for the obsession with time that's running out, and a wonderful way to hold on to it and change your philosophy of life... Simplicity is favored: minutes and seconds are eclipsed to make way for a single hand. With each line of the dial indicating 5 minutes, it's easy to tell the time to within a few minutes.
GEORGES COLLECTION
Each GUSTAVE & cie watch pays tribute to an illustrious Frenchman. Our "Georges" collection is a dedication to the Parisian film director and illusionist Georges Méliès. The originator of the first cinematographic special effects, this trained magician invented trickery and laid the foundations of modern cinema. In 1902, he directed his masterpiece, "Le Voyage dans la Lune" ("A Trip to the Moon"). Yes, the first science-fiction film was French! In one emblematic scene, a team of astronauts is projected by a cannon into the eye of the moon...
But the first name "Georges" was to be associated with this mythical star for a second time, thanks to a Burgundian event. In May 1971, Bernard Barbier, Senator and Mayor of Nuits-Saint-Georges, presented astronaut David Scott with a few bottles of Cuvée Terre-Lune 1969 wine. Two months later, the astronaut placed a label of this Burgundy in a crater and christened it Cratère Saint-Georges.
